OX Behind the Build: Taking a Rebrand Mobile

Go behind the build with OX's Emily Oxinio as she redesigns a native mobile app for touch, swipe, and voice.

We recently wrapped UX and design work on a native mobile app redesign for a global distributor of security and low-voltage products—and it’s one of the projects we’re most excited about. We pulled Emily Oxinio, Associate Creative Director at OX, aside to hear how she took an experience built for the web and designed it for touch, swipe, and voice.

‍

1. What made now the right time to redesign this app?

Emily: The app started as a slimmed-down version of their website, which houses their expansive catalog. Customers count on the app for fast access to products, technical info, and pricing quotes, so the organization saw an opportunity to make the app as strong as the rest of their digital experience. We kicked off with a workshop alongside their dev team that gave us a ton to work with.

‍

2. How has AI shaped the way you’ve built this?

Emily: We leveraged AI early in the research process to structure the system so both people and machines can work with it. We also designed with Claude and Figma’s AI agent and stitched the outputs together. The system is built for people first, both the app’s users and the teams who will work in it every day. It’s for humans, by humans.

‍

3. What design decision are you most proud of so far?

Emily: Modernizing their brand for mobile. Their rebrand is working great on web, and the app let us push it a bit further. Mobile runs on tapping, swiping, and voice, so we’re designing the system around all of it. The homepage dashboard is my favorite. It was a huge priority for them, so we leaned into personalization and dynamic content. Account managers get a greeting and their recent orders in a stacked, swipeable view, and features can reorder based on who’s using the app. Installers and field techs get a dashboard built for speed, with product search, stock availability, and product information a gesture away.

‍

4. What part of the new design do you think users will love most?

Emily: Long-press a product card and you get more details, plus quick options to save it, add it to a quote, or share it. The partner can’t wait to test that one. We also designed for voice, so users can talk to the app hands-free, which is especially useful for field techs on the job. It all adds up to a smoother experience for a large customer base, and we’re excited to help them lead the space.

Stay tuned for more as this one gets ready to launch. If your mobile experience isn't keeping pace with the rest of your brand, we'd love to help. Get in touch with the OX team.
